We could write chapter and verse about the virtues of the DR400, but we really don’t need to. Pilots universally appreciate and value these aircraft so highly, they rarely come up for sale and when they do are sold within days. G-GBVX is a DR400-120 Dauphin 2+2 which is the ubiquitous French Aero Club favourite. Her performance will put a smile on any face, anyone who has flown it says it feels so much more than a 120hp trainer.
The all-flying stabilator makes the controls come alive in your hands as soon as the power is applied, it’s flying after 250m very smartly, climbing away at a healthy rate. Once you set her up in the cruise correctly it will fly along at 100kts at 2500rpm. A single 110-litre fuel tank yields about 4 hours range burning 25 litres per hour. Visibility is akin to being a helicopter and the controls are a delight in the air. Empty weight is 1253lbs and MTOW is 1940lbs making for 687lbs useful load.
The panel has a PM 501 Intercom with a Funke ATR833S Com Radio, King KX155 for Nav with a King Indicator and King KT76A Mode C transponder. The Lycoming O-235-L2C has 1880hrs SMOH in Sept 2005. In Feb 2012 it had a strip and rebuild by Nicholson McClaren and has run 774hrs since that strip and rebuild. The prop has 774hrs ran since overhaul in Feb 2012 and the mags have 70hrs done since their 500hr inspection. The airframe has 10648hrs and is in annual to 15th March 2022.
