1967 Morane-Saulnier Rallye MS880B
G-AVIN up for sale - into final countdown and really has to fly away very soon at bargain basement price for a great deal of useful aeroplane, superb for strips. For any flying 'Gavin' out there, definitely the VFR fun machine for you.
Little over 5 weeks left until ARC Renewal due 21/7/12, very low price to fly away, sold as is. No reason to expect major issues at the renewal but need to conserve resources to fund operation of the replacement aircraft. Maintenance organisation carried out the comprehensive 6-month check at which nosewheel tyre changed, nothing of significance noted. Aside from the numbers below, a few little things to know about this near-vintage aeroplane :
- Port oleo frequently sits down but maintenance organisation assures it will be a simple pressuring-up fix at the ARC. Aside from looking slightly ungainly when taxying, doesn't affect take-off or landing performance (see You-tube link below, a recent flight).
- Suction system courtesy of a good old-fashioned venturi horn and the Artificial Horizon works fine, but not the DI. A strictly daytime VFR machine only (no lights).
- The (original french) oil temp gauge a bit sticky.
- Paintwork not brilliant but remains eminently serviceable. Cowl areas would benefit from a little touching up.
- Given the castoring nosewheel, would ensure that brake shoes were replaced at the ARC.
- Capable of very short-field take-offs using the full-flap / ground effect method, second stage flap hardly ever necessary for landing. Management of the automatic slats very easy. Very manoeuvrable, real stick and rudder aeroplane with excellent visibility.
