Looking for a share in a trusty tourer that can take you the length and breadth of Europe in a day and economically carry the full family and more? This may well be your answer.
G-IFFR is a 1973 PA32 Cherokee 6 that has been owned by the same family for nearly 20 years, but I am now the sole owner. So, I am now looking to take into our group two (or max 3) co-owners.
In 2010 we gave the plane a substantial refurbishment: a bare metal respray by Coltons at Little Staughton, and a new radio stack based around Garmin products:
Garmin GMA340 Audio Panel
Garmin 430 GPS/Nav/Comm
Garmin GI 106 Indicator (great for RNAV approaches)
Garmin GTX330 Mode S Transponder
Plus:
Panel mount housing Garmin 496 GPS
Zaon traffic (which plays out on the Garmin 496 moving map)
TKM Nav/Comm (not 8.33)
This makes it an ideal tourer for the IMC rated pilot - and potentially (save for no DME) the IR rated pilot.
Other equipment includes:
- Yaesu 8.33 handheld back up radio - I have had a separate external aerial point for this fitted so that it has a much better range;
- 4 place intercom; and
- Winslow liferaft and 6 lifevests.
I am considering, subject to appropriate funding arrangements, to install two Garmin G5s to replace the vacuum based instruments, and longer term, to replace the current (functional) Piper Altimac autopilot with the new Garmin GFC 500 autopilot (when certified on PA32).
Maintained for the last 20 years by Brinkley Light Aviation services at Meppershall - not the cheapest, but we have been very pleased by their high standards and responsiveness, and I am not prepared to "cut corners" on ensuring high maintenance standards. Full maintenance records available for inspection if required.
We want to keep the group small and to find the "right" co-owners, not the first, so as to ensure good availability and the right attitude to safety and care for the aircraft (and hence all those who fly in it).
I would also be happy to find another couple who would be interested in using the plane for shared touring trips with my wife and I. In 2017 we flew to Finland, and in 2018 we visited Sweden, the Netherlands and other parts of Europe. Two couples is a great way to make it efficient and economical touring.
Finances:
All subject to negotiation: ball park figures are as follows:
One third share:
Capital - as is, £20,000 or with two new G5s fitted, £22,000.
Monthly - £250
One quarter share:
Capital - as is, £15,000 or with two new G5s fitted, £16,500
Monthly - £200
Monthly dues include insurance, parking & hangarage, maintenance (subject to exact amount of annual a modest additional levy may be required), radio fees, servicing of liferaft/jackets, periodic Garmin database updates etc. NB: does not include an engine fund.
Hourly - Currently £120 per hour wet. If flying long trips overseas tend to work on basis of cost of fuel put in whilst abroad.
Preferably, you are:
- IMC rated pilot with at least 150 hours P1.
- More concerned with high standards than to cut corners - both in the air and on the ground.
- Likely to fly between 30 and 100 hours per annum.
But, as with everything else, happy to discuss if nearly but not quite fitting that bill.
