Robin DR400 – 180 Regent. Turweston. 2 x 1/11th shares available in a superbly run, friendly group. Exceptional aircraft, just completed a full restoration, practically as new. Annual due July 2024. Engine c280 hours SMOH.
£10 000 each, £100 per calendar month and £130 per tacho hour.
This Aircraft - This is very close to being a new aircraft. The aircraft was stripped, restored and recovered by experts Vintage Fabrics, first re - flying in May 2022. A new bespoke interior, canopy, transparencies and undercarriage legs were fitted. The engine was zero timed by Isenburg in Dec 2020 and has now run c280 hours towards its 2000hr TBO – potentially on condition after that. All metalwork was restored and refinished where required and the striking paint scheme is a contemporary Robin option. The aircraft has flown 150 hours since the restoration and is nicely settled in. 9850 hours total time, although this is not a significant factor as wood structures don’t fatigue and the restoration addressed all minor issues. The airframe should be set for another 40 years of service before another recover is required – the 2022 recover was the first since new in 1979. A new DR400-180 of similar spec lists at c£300k +VAT. Completely unaffected by 2022 wing spar AD.
The Type - The DR400-180 is an exceptional touring aircraft. With 500kg useful load this is a true 4 seater, allowing 4 good sized people, baggage and 4 hours cruising + reserve, all at once. Designed to be capable of short field operations, I have operated into several 400m strips with the required margins. Cruise is at 125kts, very quiet and smooth. Visibility is excellent and, with a low sill all round, even smaller children can see out well – my children love it.
The Group – Formed of 11 people with low turnover, the group is well run with the key roles done by people with experience. Monthly accounts are produced for mutual approval. Booking is online. Availability is good – she flies about 150 hours a year. Touring is encouraged. The group has an aircraft husbandry checklist and monthly deep clean rota to keep her as new. She is hangared in a serviced hangar at Turweston – just text in advance and she will be outside refuelled to your requested level at the appointed hour – no more heaving 3 aircraft out, to then get yours out, by yourself. Operating outside aerodrome hours is permitted, the aircraft will be left outside or collected from outside for you. Current costs are £100 per month and £130 per tacho hour, which roughly equates to per airborne hour depending on cruise rpm and flight profile. The group intends to sell a further share and split the proceeds 11 ways, to give each person a 1/12th share. Engine fund established and accounted for in separate deposit account - £10 per tacho hour from within the hourly rate.
