Do you have a hangar in a remote location? Are you worried about theft or vandalism?
I was when I bought a Rotax 912 powered aircraft and kept it in a blister hangar at a rural aerodrome. Theft of these engines is well-known, and despite some security measures, many airfields are scantily protected at night.
I bought this system which solved my problem. It was all bought from UltraSecure.com. The main unit is a "GSM dialler", which means a control box with a SIM card in it, which when triggered will phone you with a message. Up to 3 phone numbers can be programmed, it dials each in turn. See https://www.ultrasecuredirect.com/security-alarm-auto-diallers-c8
At the same time, alarms can be fitted which make a good racket to dissuade thieves and intruders. These link to the dialler by radio. Two are included here.
The system can be triggered by various means, including PIR detectors, floor mats etc. I decided to use simple "gate switches", which are a box which is paired to the dialler unit, triggered by a magnet. If the magnet is moved away from the box, the box sends a signal to the Dialler unit to trigger it. I placed my switches a) under the top cowl of my Pioneer, and b) inside the canopy of my Starlet.
The system is easily activated and de-activated using a remote key fob.
All units are battery operated, and the dialler can be fed by a USB power supply if preferred.
The complete set comprises -
* One GSM dialler
* Two alarms
* Three door switches (one magnet is missing, £4 on ebay)
* Two remote controls
* Spare batteries
* Full instructions for all items
Note - you will need to buy a SIM card for use if it is going to phone you. It works with most mobile operators (Three might not work). One that definitely works can be bought from UltraSecure - see
