SSDR Fisher FP-505 Skeeter Kit - part built
Being sold at a huge loss at £2,500
Disaster. The build of a Fisher FP-505 Skeeter SSDR was going well but has now stopped. I have had to give up on learning to fly. Apparently, I should have started about 30 years ago, not at 67.
One wing and the tail surfaces are built, and everything is ready to progress, but I’m sure you can understand that I have run out of motivation to continue.
After a great deal of research the Fisher 505 was chosen because of style, simplicity of build, performance, value-for-money and looks, all of which boxes it ticks—the kit cost around £8,500.
Anyone finishing this kit will finish up with a terrific little aeroplane. The package consists of a full set of plans, all the wood, tubing and hardware supplied, a package of epoxy adhesives, a revised, recently delivered and unopened undercarriage kit, wheels, covering fabric, fuel tank and fibreglass cowling.
I had not chosen an engine yet, but the manufacturer suggests 40hp, so there is a good variety of 2-stroke engines available at sensible money. If you are a lightweight person, 90kg or below (I’m not), the possibility of a 2-cylinder VW 4-stroke engine is open to you.
My workshop in Norwich has a laser-levelled table upon which the wing and tail surfaces were built. The other wing and the basic fuselage could also be assembled on it, so I could possibly build them for you, leaving a relatively simple assembly job with the alignment-critical jobs done. To build them for you would take a maximum of 4 months.
