FOR SALE: 1957 De Havilland Thruxton Jackaroo – G-AOEX
One of only 5 still flying – A rare opportunity to own a unique piece of British aviation history
Hi, I’m looking for a new home for my late father’s beloved aircraft.
This is G-AOEX, the prototype Series 1 Thruxton Jackaroo — a rare four-seat cabin biplane (modified DH82A Tiger moth), beautifully restored and in full working order, with a Permit to Fly through the LAA until January 2026?. It’s painted in its original Wiltshire School of Flying colours, just as it was when it first flew in 1957.
My dad, Arthur Christian, originally learned to fly in this very aircraft. He bought it in 1985, stored it for many years, and eventually completed a full restoration in December 2022.
Since my father passed away, the aircraft has been in storage. I don’t fly myself, and it’s become clear that this aircraft deserves more than I can give it. It’s such a shame for it to be sitting in a hangar gathering dust, when it really deserves to be in the air and appreciated.
We’re open to sensible offers. More than anything, I want to find the right person or group who will give it the care and use it deserves. If we can’t find a new home soon, I may need to consider other, less ideal options — and I’d much rather see it flying.
If you’re interested — or know someone who might be — please get in touch.
