New Experimental O-200-A - SOLD United Kingdom
Experimental O-200 for sale. Selling on behalf of a customer. Never been flown so this is in effect a new-old-stock engine. It was assembled by Weslake (there have been a number of companies fighting over that name over the years and the current one says it wasn't them!). It has supposedly had a lot of fettling done to it such as gas flowing of the heads etc so is a very high end O-200 and not just a bog standard one let alone a tired worn out one which are often for sale for similar money!
No idea how long ago it was assembled as there is no build log or any other paperwork for that matter. So your LAA inspector would have to pop the engine open (or just cylinders off?) to cast their eye over the internals and then it would be eligible for use as an uncertified ‘clone’ of an O-200 much like the APU C90’s etc that power many LAA types. I haven’t actually checked this with the LAA but if they allow APU’s to be used (which they do and are very commonplace) they wouldn’t have any issues with this engine. On opening it your inspector would be able to see that it is as new and hasn’t been flown so it can be deemed as zero-time.
Comes with the mags as fitted in the pictures and the very sturdy frame it is fitted to.
A couple of the pictures are rubbish quality but to be honest you need to view in person. Feel free to bring a borescope and an inspector.
Priced to sell at £7950 (new O-200 from the factory is £20k+).
Update as of 11-Sept:
My engine man has now taken a cylinder and the accessory blanks off the engine. We are amazed at how good a condition it is in! It was inhibited which would have helped but the cylinder we took off is completely free of any corrosion on the bore which is almost unheard of with an engine that has sat for any time at all!
The engine does show signs of having run. This complicates being able to call it zero-timed for LAA purposes although you could argue that it has only done test cell running and so is technically still zero flight time for the log books… The rocker pads show that the running really has been minimal as they have the slightest of rubs on them on top of the as-new manufacture marks.
The good news keeps on coming and to summarise is as follows:
Fuel pump is present (not only saving the huge cost of a fuel pump but also means it has the rare fuel pump lobe on the camshaft)
Starter motor fwd bearing oil gallery mod has been carried out.
Carb is present and included in the sale as is a decent airbox
Alternator drive gear is present (this gear alone is £4000+vat from continental at the moment!) and is as new with no corrosion.
Camshaft and followers are corrosion free.
Crank front area (as it goes through he crankshaft seal) is as new plated as completely corrosion free (this is a weak point on these engines and many cranks get written off due to pitting here).
Induction has been gas-flowed as is evident in both the induction manifolds and the spider. It has been done by someone who knew what they were doing as the finish has been left ‘rough’ which is required for a low revving high torque engine as this helps to swirl the charge and increases torque…
