A3E ?200

I am selling my Icom A3E radio (transceiver) and Flycom integrated intercom. This compete setup allows the pilot and passenger to communicate with one another, using a variety of available headsets, and allows the pilot to communicate with ground stations. The system takes its power straight from the aircraft's electrical system.

The radio comes with the Flycom integrated intercom, which connects neatly to the base of the radio, in the place of the normal battery pack. The intercom has sockets for two headsets.

The radio can also be used with other types of intercom- simply disconnect the intercom and plug another one in.

It has a power cable which allows it to be connected to the aircraft's electrics (it runs off 12v, so connects direct to the battery via an inline fuse, or it could have a cigar lighter socket wired on instead).

The radio works perfectly, and has no scratches on the screen. The buttons and screen light up if required, and the LCD works perfectly.

Frequencies can be input either by typing the numbers straight in using the buttons, or by turning the frequency knob. There is also a memory to store your favourite channels.

There is a PTT button on the interface itself (in addition to the one on the radio), but I will also provide a remote PTT button with coily wire if required.

You can store 50 frequencies in the memory, and name each one with a 6 character name of your choice. There is also a 121.5kHz emergency button.

There is currently heavy duty Velcro on the back of the radio to allow it to mount quickly and easily on the panel, but I also have a belt clip which screws onto the back, as well as a mounting plate which could be screwed onto your panel in the aircraft. I can provide extra heavy duty Velcro if required. I will also supply a headset extension cable which you can route permanently from the interface to a convenient position, so that you don't have to plug the coily headset wire directly into the unit if you don't want to.

I also have an instruction manual for the radio.

Please note that I do not have an aerial or battery with the radio... as it is it will work perfectly in an aircraft, by plugging it into the aircraft's aerial and power supply. It will not work as a handheld unless you purchase the aerial and battery pack (+ charger). This stuff is available cheaply on ebay.

The radio is in good condition, except that the rubber top on the volume control knob is missing (see photo). I actually prefer to use it like this, as the standard design is tricky to use with gloves on because the volume and squelch rotate around the same axis, directly on top of each other. Without the top, it is easy to adjust the volume or squelch separately with gloves on, without accidentally adjusting the other. This is practically impossible with gloves on, if the volume control has its top on.
There is a chap on this website who manufactures and sells modified Volume/squelch knobs which solve this problem (taller volume knob and wider squelch knob), for ?10, but to be honest, not having a top on the volume knob works just as well.

I'm looking for ?200 for the complete setup.
I'm in Oundle, Northants, if you want to view or collect.
