The birds are singing, bees buzzing, and soon the air at weekends will be filled with light aircraft. Why not be one of them, flying this lovely cute little Aircoupe that attracts attention wherever you go. She’s been a regular on the English fly-in scene so you may already have seen her. Sadly I now have to spend my retirement on the ground looking up instead of flying my pride and joy.
The Alon A2 Aircoupe is the perfect aircraft to take you, your partner or friend off for lunch at the seaside, over glorious countryside, wherever and whenever you want to go. The plane flies beautifully, it's very easy to handle, and simple to maintain. Although it is quite rare - there are only five currently airworthy in the UK - it is fully supported by Univair in Denver, USA and there is an active Ercoupe Owners Club.
Designed to be stable in flight, the Aircoupe is unable to stall and therefore spin. Although co-ordinated controls - ailerons and rudders coupled to the yoke avoiding the need for rudder pedals - were dominant in early Ercoupe production, this model has conventional controls with rudder pedals. A beefy maingear cushions landing on bumpy grass fields. Unlike previous model Ercoupes and Forneys, the Alon has a lower window line (better visibility and easier to get in), Continental C-90, an improved panel, and best of all a large canopy that slides back. On summer evenings you can potter about open cockpit!
This Alon A2 Aircoupe was first registered in 1966, has 4,370 hours on the airframe and I’ve owned it for 15 years, flying around 50-60 hours per year. It’s been maintained in perfect mechanical condition during that time and is fully corrosion-proofed. The engine was zero-timed 550 hours ago, and all of the AD’s have been done. The most recent cylinder compression tests were 72/74/74/76. The panel has a Trig 833 MHz and Mode C transponder. Although it has been hangared, it comes with a custom-made Cambrai cover from spinner to behind the canopy, including “prop-socks”.
G-HARY is based on a strip near Cambridge, and you are very welcome to contact me to ask questions and arrange viewing.
In addition our friendly flying instructor who regularly flies this aircraft can check you out safely.
