Cuby (Cub Replica) £3,000

Shares now available for this well-established syndicate based at Gloucester Staverton Airport. Our Wag-Aero Cuby is a vintage fun machine. Originally built in New Zealand (hence the “MPH” letters on the fin), from an original Cub fuselage, with Wag-Aero wings added, she was brought to the UK in 2000, and she’s lived at Staverton ever since.

She’s a bit of a “Heinz 57 Varieties” Cub, but then many Cubs and Cubys are these days. The most notable thing is that she is powered by a Continental O-200 engine, 100 hp with an electric start. All that extra power makes for a brisk takeoff and climb. As she is a permit aircraft, engine is not restricted on time but is run "on condition". Total Airframe hours are just over 2,800.

She handles really well. Not quite as wallowy as most Cubs (she has a shorter wing), but with classic taildragger handling that makes her a delight to fly as well as exercising your co-ordination skills of stick and rudder.

You fly the Cuby from the front seat, so you have good access to all the panel instruments and gizmos. There’s a Garmin Attitude Indicator that tells you a lot more besides, and she is cabled up for TCAS.

Trig radio and Transponder units mean that you’ve got modern technology for comms and navigation.

We’re a 12-person group, but she has good availability and an easy-to-use booking system. If you are interested, we’ll give you guest access to the booking system so you’ll be able to see just how available she is.

LAA Permitted until June 2025. Permits are a collaborative affair, where everyone mucks in and does a bit, even if it’s only a bit of cleaning and lubricating. We have a skilled, ex-professional engineer in the group and others who have some technical knowledge, but of course you are more than welcome to join in and learn more about her.

To fly her, you’ll need to have 100+ hours Total Time and either be tailwheel-experienced or undergo conversion training with our tame instructor.

Monthly costs are £70 per month. Flying costs are £72 per hour wet. We have an account for fuel and landings with the Airport.
Share price is a very affordable £3,000. We have a £5k contingency kitty which has accumulated via our regular charges.
