Apologies for the rather large technical glitch over the past couple of days.
The data centre that hosts AFORS is closing down in January/February/March, forcing a mandatory migration to a new Data Center.
The Afors main Server was not scheduled until next week, but it seems in the middle of the migration, the data centre engineers may have pulled the wrong cables, which caused the hard disks to go offline.
Anyway, it's back online, and remarkably, calculated over the continuous presence, we are still technically at 99.99% uptime.
A Major Milestone: We recently passed a huge milestone. This past November, AFORS turned 26 years old (first registered in 1999).
For over a quarter of a century, we have been a constant presence in this industry.
A new Chapter: Rather than just patching things up,
I have drawn on my 26 years of experience developing AFORS to spend the last year working full-time on a complete rewrite of the code base from scratch.
" From Scratch" means exactly that.
AFORS is no WordPress template, nor does it rely on the "easy" site-builders, or even standard programming frameworks like Laravel.
It is a completely bespoke, standalone application.
I wrote every line of code specifically for AFORS, to ensure it is leaner, faster, and far more secure than any off-the-shelf solution could ever be.
This bespoke approach has also allowed me to integrate powerful new tools directly into the core platform. For example, I have built in advanced AI assistance to help advertisers draft professional, compelling ad descriptions and summaries in seconds.
The Big Change: AFORS has always been a labour of love, but Google Ads (combined with the banner adverts) paid the not-insubstantial bills.
However, with the rise of ad-blockers, ad revenue no longer covers the server costs associated with running a site of the size and traffic volume of AFORS.
And now that I am fully retired, I cannot afford to subsidise the site to the same extent.
To secure the next 25 years of AFORS, I am making two bold moves:
1. Permanently removing Google Ads for a cleaner, faster, professional environment.
2. Moving to an optional lightweight subscription model to keep the platform independent.
Important: Browsing remains 100% FREE.
You do not need a subscription (or even an account) to search for aircraft or items.
There will also be a 'Free Basic Membership'.
This option costs £0. It lets you create a profile, book community events, chat on the messaging system, and buy advertising credits as you go, without any commitment.
For our Industry Partners: With the third-party clutter gone, we can focus on an aviation-only platform for existing and future banner advertisers who wish to align with an honest, trusted brand.
