G-AWAX is powered by a low-time Continental O-200-A engine, with both calendar and hour times remaining excellent. The aircraft is currently based at our facility in the South West of England, Henstridge Airfield. Over the last few years, it has been operated by a professional training organisation before going into private ownership, and has been maintained under a CAMO.

Alpha Xray benefits not only from a low-hour engine but also from the desirable Texas Tailwheel STC and, importantly, the ability to operate on MoGas – significantly reducing running costs. It’s the ideal tailwheel aircraft for short-field operations, flight training schools, hire and reward, or private ownership alike.

The 1964 ‘D’ model of the Cessna 150 introduced the first major design change to the type – the addition of a rear window, marketed as Omni-Vision. Many pilots found the new cabin lighter and more pleasant thanks to the increased natural light. The rear window altered the aircraft’s appearance and reduced cruise speed by around 3 mph (5 km/h). However, it also provided a larger baggage compartment and an increased baggage weight allowance from 80 to 120 lb (36 to 54 kg). The unswept tailfin from previous years was retained for another two years, while elevator and rudder mass balances were improved to reduce the risk of flutter associated with the revised rear fuselage design. The aircraft’s maximum take-off weight was also increased in 1964 to 1,600 lb (730 kg), a figure that remained until the introduction of the Cessna 152.

A total of 804 Cessna 150Ds were produced, although few examples feature the sought-after Texas Tailwheel conversion.
